Before You Adopt

We’re For Dogs!

Taking on the responsibility of a dog is hard work. Take into consideration the type of dog you are looking for. Do you have a fenced yard big enough for a high-energy dog to get lots of exercise? How will your new dog affect the other animals (including humans) in your home? How much time can you dedicate to the love and attention your dog needs and deserves?

We LOVE these dogs! We want them to succeed and live long, joyous lives…because we’ve made that connection with them. And something wonderful has happened to us! We want you to feel that connection with them, too.

So, Please, ask lots of questions about any dog you’re interested in adopting. Think about your lifestyle, and how this new pack member will fit in. We’ve got them started on their training. It will be your job to love them for the rest of their lives.

I understand that the adoption fee is non-refundable after 7 days from adoption date.
I agree to provide this pet with proper food, water, shelter, vaccinations, medical care and attention.
If I am adopting a dog, I agree to keep it on Heartworm Preventative Medication year-round.
If I am adopting a dog, I agree that I have a fenced yard in accordance with Pets & People's requirements. I will not keep this pet chained or on a "tie-out" cable or rope. Absolutely no pet is to be kept in a pen.
I understand that the medical & veterinary care for this adopted pet is my sole responsibility. I do not expect any reimbursement from Pet & People for veterinary costs. However, if this pet becomes ill within the first 2 (two) weeks, I may contact Pets & People and they will make arrangements with their Pets & People veterinarian at no cost to me. (Many people have complete confidence in and prefer to take their pet to their own veterinarian. Pets & People understands & applauds you desire to provide your pet with that care and to assume all financial responsibility.)
I recognize the following symptoms may be signs of a sick pet: not eating, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, sneezing and/or coughing. If my puppy exhibits any of these symptoms, I understand that it may be very serious. A few hours could make a difference. I will notify Pets & People immediately or contact my own veterinarian at my own expense.
I agree that I will not give away, abandon or sell this pet. If I can no longer keep this pet, I agree to return it to Pet's & People. Under special circumstances, Pets & People may allow me to choose another pet. I agree to allow Pets & People the right to inspect this pet's living conditions & to relinquish this pet if conditions are not satisfactory. If I relinquish this pet, I understand I will forfeit all adoption fees and I will be personally liable for any medical expenses required due to my failure to comply with any of the conditions in this agreement.
I will not turn this pet over to any animal shelter. If any animal shelter picks up this pet, I agree to retrieve it from that shelter within 24 hours of verbal telephone notification by either the shelter or Pets & People. I agree that if I fail to retrieve this pet from any shelter within the stated 24 hour notification period or if at any time I state that I no longer want this pet, legal ownership of this pet immediately reverts to Pets & People. If I cannot be contacted verbally by telephone within 24 hours by either the shelter or Pets & People, legal ownership immediately reverts to Pets & People. If this pet is to be euthanized within 48 hours, the above stated notification period is waived & the legal ownership of this pet immediately reverts to Pets & People.
I must not permit this pet to run at large and/or become a public nuisance in violation of any city or state laws. If I fail to comply with any of the terms and conditions set forth within this agreement, Pets & People Humane Society may recover as liquidate damages and not as a penalty the sum of $100.00 in addition to the right to recover possession of this pet, along with any and all additional legal fees at the rate of $100.00 per hour, plus all reasonable costs. I certify that I have read this adoption agreement and that I agree and will comply with the terms and conditions as set forth therein.
